About the Scheme

India’s core competence lies in its knowledge of the inner domain. Increasingly, we are discovering that our educational system is directed towards an easy way out and is making us into Indian nationals without providing us with equal opportunities to become Indians. To become a real Indian you have to find a way to claim your country fiercely through a rapt faith in its essence, for your very life as it were. We are too full of our belief in a natural, fated kind of our greatness which we assumed was he birthright of India. This was of course, the result of great men saints and mystics of colossal stature, presence and power. We assumed that since such men seem to be born in the land more or less on order, in a regular stream through history we had something very special in us and that in some odd way we too were like Swami Vivekananda, Paramhamsa Yogananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Dayananda, Ramana Maharshi or Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore or thousands of less well known men and women of that kind. We forget, every fire needs a spark. An educational system that does not incorporate in its effort to mould the minds of the young in all the dimensions of the Indian experience, is bound at some point to lose what it claims to be the Indian culture. GuruKul experience offers that spark an inspiration that may transform an entire life.

The scheme began in the year 1986 to enable students to have a glimpse into the age-old guru-shishya tradition. It is an attempt to expose school and college students to a way of life with people who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of their work with single-minded devotion. It was felt that if a student had an opportunity to go and stay with a guru for a month during summer vacations (May /June/July)and observe the ethos that exists in a completely different system of education and living than the student s own, the experience would be both inspiring and fulfilling.

Through the scholarship scheme SPIC MACAY makes an attempt to bring the students closer to a world of wisdom, inspiration, dreams, discovery and exploration. It brings them in contact with such dedicated and acclaimed people who have achieved a lot in their respective fields through the strength that comes from sheer hard work, discipline and inherent talent.

This scheme provides an opportunity to a student to stay with such people for a month and imbibe their wisdom and observe the ethos that exists in an environment completely different from their own an experience which will be both inspiring and fulfilling. Staying with any of these Gurus for a month would be a voyage of discovery and an exercise in self growth. The student, by interacting with the Guru could learn how visions & dreams were converted into reality, how strength came from within and struggle was something beautiful. This thirty days experience would be a holistic education in an environment that inspires, even as it disciplines.

Some of the likely Gurus are His Holiness Dalai Lama’s Monastery, Guru Ammannur M Chakyar’s pupil G.Venu and Kapila Nangiar, Ustad Fariduddin Dagar,Ustad R. Fahimuddin Dagar,Smt. Girja Devi, Janab Abdul Rashid Khan, Swami Niranjananand Saraswati of Bihar School of Yoga, Smt. Aruna Roy,Shri. J. Gurappa Chetty of kalamkari,Shri Prakash Amte,Sister Prema of Missionaries of Charity, Smt Anjolie Ela Menon, Kerala Kalamandalam for Kathakali, Smt Teejan Bai, Shri Kumar Bose,Smt. Daya Bai. For submitting the application the candidate can use the above mentioned tentative list of Likely Gurus.

Rules and Regulations
1. The scholarship entails staying with a guru for one month in summer. Travel expenses to and from the guru s residence (Second Class Sleeper) will be borne by SPIC MACAY.
2. Applications screened for the interview will be informed by post, following which they will have to present themselves at specified centers. Please note that travel expenses incurred for interviews will have to be borne by the applicants.
3. While the selection panel does its utmost to place the applicants with one of the gurus of their choice, this may not always be possible. In such cases, the decision of the panel in placing the student will be final.

I got to know about this realization of my dream thought very late that too by a coincidence…
what can i do nw? i really want to be a part of SPICMACAY, & wish to contribute with the best of my capabilities.looking forward for guidance.

My joy knew no bounds when I came to know about SPICMACAY.Everybody can do masti,khati,bobal etc; but PEACE is something different, which lies in insight and come from there.We can explore peace from the SOURCE through SPICMACAY.And SCHOLARSHIP of it is agetway to peace.

The scholarship program by spic macay is one of its own kinds and the one who experiences it knows what divine knowledge and wisdom is he or she gaining. The environment and the journey of that one month is very unique and unforgettable for the whole life. Yet, the only disappointing feature is that its once in a lifetime option. Perhaps, there are still a few who are hungry for more.

It is a one experience every single person should have. It might change the entire course of one’s life for the betterment of the society and mankind while preserving the centuries old heritage for the future generations at the same time.

The scholarship scheme made me excited.The very thought of staying with such an eminent guru for one month makes one touch the sky with outbursting joy. The olden guru- sishya relations are to be nurtured as they have a great importance in present day education system where the child pays hardly any respect to it’s teachers and elders. This is infact a golden opportunity to those who really yearn to do something for the cause of an ideal society as well as to achieve social, cultural and moral revival.

This SPIC MACAY initiative is a rebirth of the ancient GURUKUL tradition of India; which had been in hibernation for ages and ages; 24×7 proximity to the Guru in the chosen field, will give not only learning but ALSO experience, which is so essential for a holistic education. Serious and committed students will have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and society will also be enriched by the infusion of matured talents through this Gurukul method.

SPICMACAY IS ONE OF THE BEST EFFORTS TO REJUVANATE THE GREAT ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE IN INDIA , MAY BE IN THE FIELD OFCLASSICAL MUSIC,YOGA,CLASSICAL DANCE ETC. EXPERIENCE KEEP A GREATER VALUE THAN TNE KNOWLEDGE . THE GREAT GURUS WILL BE A GRAT SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE WIYH EXPERIENCE.WE NEED IT TO FLORISH.
