The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth is currently organising Lecture-Demonstration on Yog by Swami Dhirendra Acharya in various educational institutions in the state. Swamiji is a highly educated individual also who had spent several years in the Himalayas. He has an MA in Education, MSc in Yoga, BEd in Yoga, Ph. D. on stress management and well being from Punjab University. His colleague Swami Chadanand Ji is also a highly qualified individual with an MSc in physics in Yog Sadhana Mission.

Since 17th August 2010, numbers of students with staff members of the instituion of KMBB College of Engineering and Technology are learning Yog, about the necessary tips on Stress Management & most required precautions & preventions for Swine Flu, which is very essential for current life style. This session will be continuing till 21th of this month by Swami Dhirendra Acharya Ji & Swami Chadanand Ji. According to Swami Dhirendra Acharya Ji some Pranayams like “Dirgha Swasa Pranayam”, “Vashrika Pranayam” & little bit “Sukmha Byams” are essential as the Flu is concerned. Except that some essential & importants tips of Yog are suggested for regular life to get free from diseases & mental stress.

A homeless and penniless student from Orissa he spent nights for months in the corridors of the PGI serving hundreds of patients to complete his postgraduation and pursue doctorate in a yoga- related subject. Adversities heaped upon him by the 1999 cyclone in coastal Orissa by destroying his house made him a true yogi mentally and spiritually to confront unbelievable miseries in Panjab University. He had one regular meal once in three days for months, stayed in an empty water tank during the monsoon and winters and shared food with monkeys in the PU campus. During this period, he had befriended a lot of monkeys in the university who could have been seen in his room in a group combing their hair and sharing food with him. He has taken to yoga after having acquired a black belt in karate.

He says the yoga could transform the youth by unleashing their positive force through a mental, physical and spiritual harmony restored through yogic exercises. His thesis also deals with the well-being of tribals — impact of yogasan, asan, pranayam and meditation upon stress and wellness of tribal adolescents of Orissa.”

Swamiji has given tips of yoga to actors in the Department of Indian Theatre in Panjab University and Dara Studio to sharpen their acting skills apart from keeping them mentally focused and physically fit. Yoga, like acting, has heavily borrowed from postures of animals. Talking to The Tribune, Swami said he believed that Yoga could unleash the positive energy of the youth to draw them in building a better society. Swami said probably it was the practice of yoga that stopped him from becoming a criminal in utter distress. He said he had once thought of robbery a bank but yoga unleashed his positive force.

Swamiji is now developing a 15-minute-long capsule of kriyas, asanas and pranayam to helppeople contribute better in national productivity. The companies could also follow these productivity-related capsules to improve their manpower. The money earned through camps helps him to pursue his studies and that of 12 tribal students in Mayurbhanj district of Orissa.

He has founded the “Yog Sadhana Mission” and has dedicated himself for promotion of Yog. Besides KMBB College of Engineering and Technology, Swamiji will address faculty and students at HDF School of Management, Aryan School of Engineering, IMMT, Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET), Ravenshaw University and University of Culture etc. Contact Pratap Mohanty at 9853334086 and pratapbinka@gmail.com for more information.
