Quintet 5 Beaufort is a woodwind ensemble of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (Young German Philharmonic Orchestra) consisting of five international music students from the conservatoires of Leipzig and Weimar. It was founded in April 2009, after the young musicians had met during an exchange of the European student’s program ‘Erasmus’ at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Success came in November 2009, when they won 3rd prize and the exceptional prize for the interpretation of a modern piece at the chamber music competition at Leipzig’s Hochschule fur Musik und Theater. In September 2010 the quintet 5 Beaufort of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie was invited to a masterclass with Prof. Klaus Thunemann. The ensemble was also awarded a prize in the ensuing ‘Cours et Concours’ contest.

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, founded in 1974, is a talent pool for the orchestra of the future. It unites excellent young musicians from German-language music academies and forms them into a musically demanding ensemble, with the help of renowned conductors and soloists. Former members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie play in every German professional orchestra.
