Letter to school/college Principal for VIRASAT 10
Category: Downloads |No CommentsDear Principal,
SPIC MACAY is a voluntary non-profit movement founded in the year 1977 by dedicated academicians and students. It seeks to conserve and promote Indian culture and introduce the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry to the youth of this country. Through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy, SPIC MACAY seeks to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler meaning and values. Classical Indian music and dance carry with them generations of wisdom dating back to antiquity. We hope that the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in them will become an integral part of a student’s life and inspire them to become a better human being.
Presently SPIC MACAY has more than 200 chapters in India and abroad. Please refer to the activity chart attached to this mail for details. In order to achieve its goals, SPIC MACAY organizes lectures, demonstrations, intensives, informal discussions, and seminars in various educational institutes, schools, and colleges. We also conduct Baithaks, Virasat, week-long Fests, Conventions and Talks which introduce students to several young and upcoming artistes who perform along with the senior artistes. Held all over India, these programs give students an opportunity to witness insightful performances and workshops in folk and classical arts, literature, crafts, talks, theatre, cinema and yoga and more importantly, informally interact with maestros like Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia(Flute), Pt. Birju Maharaj(Kathak), Ustad Fahimuddin Dagar(Dhrupad), Ashwini Bhide(Hindustani Vocal), Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt(Mohan veena),Teejan Bai(Pandavani), to name a few. The rapport thus created helps the student develop a wholesome understanding of not only the art form but also the artiste as a practitioner of a certain way of life. The Scholarship Scheme provides opportunities to aspiring Shishyas to live for a month with ‘Gurus’ who have dedicated their life to their art forms, be it literature, religion or traditional medicine.
This year, VIRASAT 2010 will commence on 1st September with the inaugural concerts of Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Ust.Asad Ali Khan at Vice Regal Lodge, North Campus Delhi University,.
We hereby invite your esteemed institution to take part in the VIRASAT series and organize at least 3 concerts in your school/college. Please download the Consent form our website. We would like to recommend a week long VIRASAT series in institutions with different modules. We feel that by focusing on lesser expensive modules like Film, Talk and Yoga, the numbers of program could be increased. Kindly fax the filled and signed consent form to our office 011 – 26596451.
We request you to send a representative from your institution to our weekly meetings on Saturdays at Modern School, Flat no. 4, Staff Quarters ,Barakhamba Road from 11-12noon for schools and 4pm-6pm for colleges. I am sure that your contribution by hosting these programs in your institution will encourage students and go a long way in taking this movement forward. Besides academics, a culturally enriching atmosphere is indeed quintessential for the all-round development of a student. An understanding of these art forms will not only influence his way of life and thinking but also make him understand the importance of carrying forward the traditions and the rich cultural heritage of our country.
It would be a pleasure to have your institution as a part of our family. It would help us take this movement far and wide.
Looking forward to a positive response.
Thanking You.
Yours sincerely,
VIRASAT 10 Coordinator
