Sri. Sarwar HussainSri. Sarwar Hussain, born in 1981, is one of the most accomplished and promising musician of the younger generation of Sarangi players in Northern India. His musical heritage comes from five generations of distinguished Sarangi players from Gohad near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Born into home filled with music, Sarwar began learning Sarangi from his grandfather at a tender age of nine. The superb training which he received from Ustad Abdul Latif Khan Sahab for 11 years is clearly reflected in his thoughtful and virtuosic playing style. His playing embodies the intricate delicacy of his grandfather’s style as well as rare and impressive techniques which his grandfather learned from one of the most famous Sarangi player of the first half of this Century, Ustad Bade Gulam Sabir Sahab. Sarwar is the only Sarangi player of this generation who has confidence of playing the difficult and confusing “Tappa” style, which he inherited from his grandfather.
Sarwar has received “Laxmi Bala Samman” of A.I.R. Bhopal and title of “Sur Mani” from the Haridas Sangeet Sammelan Mumbai. He has also represented India in South Korea in the year 1997. He has also given memorable Sarangi solo performances during his extensive tour to USA in 2001. He has several CDs released abroad to his credit. In 2007, he was honoured by the coveted Ustad. Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Akademi.
