Smt. Saswati Sen, a front ranking Kathak dancer, received her initial training at Delhi‟s Kathak Kendra under the guidance of Smt. Reba Vidyarthi. At a young age, she showed a formidable talent in Kathak. She received the National Scholarship in Performing Arts and went on to graduate in the Kathak dance form. Later on, she was trained under the great Pandit Birju Maharaj. The superb foundation of her training is combined with innate talent, dedication and persistency. Her forte is Abhinaya (expressional acting or the art of expressing) which has always received high appreciation.
Her performances always embody both traditional knowledge and creativity. She has been featured in many prestigious dance events on a regular basis, both in India and abroad. Saswati Sen is the proud recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and also the Sanskriti Award, the Shringar Mani Award and many others. With her immense talent and versatility, she is considered one of the best exponents of the famed Lucknow Gharana (school of dance). She has also choreographed several dance dramas and group compositions.
