    Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is one of the most ancient dance forms of India, known for its grace and sculpturesque poses. The term Bha-ra-ta implies the triple components of „bhava‟ (expressional dance), „raga‟ (melody) and „tala‟ (rhythm) all of which are judiciously combined in this beautiful dance style. This classical dance form originated from the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Bharatanatyam is considered the embodiment of music in visual form and is esteemed as an act of devotion. Typical Bharatanatyam is performed to the South Indian Classical Carnatic Music. It is a combination of three elements – Nritta (rhythmic element shown through body movements), Natya (dramatic element) and Nritya (a combination of the first two).

One of the renowned artist is Smt. Sucheta Chapekar
